Austrian potato market week 25
The early potato harvest in Austria is making progress. This as per the Austrian website bauernzeitung.at. Whilst in Burgenland the first fields have already been cleaned, harvesting in some of the regions in Lower Austria have only just started. The yields are very different between the federal states. In Burgenland the yield is approximately 30 tons/HA, in the region Stockerau about 15 tons and in Marchfeld between 20 and 22 tons. The demand in the east of Austria does not quite link up with the supply. Because of the warm weather the demand for early potatoes lacked behind. The foodstuff trade also still offer potatoes of the old harvest. Prices this year cause considerable discussions. By contract the growers prices for early potatoes in Burgenland are 25 Euro/100 kgs., in Steiermark
between 28 and 30 Euro, in Lower Austria 35 Euro and in Higher Austria 36 Euro.
Germany
In Germany the first lots from the Pfalz are sufficiently firm of peel in the meantime. The growers price for the round firm of peel varieties was 33 Euro/100 kgs. at he beginning of the week in a number of German regions. In Lower Saxony the first ready-to-eat early potatoes are expected in a few weeks' time. The supply of early potatoes from Egypt and Spain have been sold already and the demand for German potatoes of the old harvest from Eastern Europe was unexpectedly high the last few weeks.
