UK: Aldi crowned ‘Supermarket Of The Year’ at Which? Awards
This is the second time that Aldi has won the Which? Supermarket of the Year award (previously won in 2009) and comes after a number of other award successes this year, including The Grocer's ‘Discounter of The Year’. Aldi has also won five Which? Best Buy awards in the last 12 months.
As with other discounters, Aldi has had one of its most successful trading years to date as cash-strapped shoppers search out cheaper food. Its market share, as measured by Kantar Worldpanel, hit an all-time high of 2.8% in the 12 weeks to 10 June, representing 24.7% change on this time last year
Tony Baines, Managing Director of Buying, Aldi Stores UK, commented: "Being awarded Supermarket of the Year is a real reflection of Aldi's success in 2012. Sales are going from strength to strength, and we're welcoming new shoppers every day. We believe this is down to our commitment to always deliver high quality products at low prices."
