Brazil authorized the first licenses to import Argentinian pears while apples have to wait
This decision shows that pear placement to Brazil is starting to flow, despite the slow rhythm due to all the sanitary requirements demanded by Dilma Rousseff's government on the exportable regional offer. "These are the first permits after the formal closing of borders. Now, we have to see how bureaucratic steps will be implemented and how long it will take to place the fruit on the shelves," commented Marcelo Loyart, general manager for CAFI.
In the regional companies the work is being done to show that the Valley region has no sanitary problems with fruit to be exported to the Brazilian market.
Although, statistics by the sanitary authorities in Brazil show that carpocapsa (quarantine plague in Brazil) is showing a growing tendency in these last years in the regions of Valle de Río Negro and Neuquén, if one pays attention to the refusals at the border. On the other hand, the economy crisis faced by the regional activity might deepen these problems, since many exploitations don't have all the resources to fight and control the plague.
Other theme worrying regional exporters is about the lack of definition on apple exports to Brazil that were halted more than a month ago. In 10 days a new bilateral meeting is expected in Buenos Aires to handle the pending block and it's expected that there will be an end to the apple commerce problem.
