FruitImprese: Latest data about Italian foreign fruit and vegetable trade

According to the data reported by FruitImprese, in the first quarter of 2012 Italian export of fruit and vegetables grew while import decreased.

In terms of numbers, both export and import have fallen. The balance is about 332 million Euro, it increased by 2.5% with respect to the same period in 2011. On the whole, Italy exported slightly more than 1 million tons (+1.1.%) for an amount of 995 million Euro (-7.9%).

In terms of volume vegetables (+3.6%), fresh fruits (+4.6%) and dried fruits (+7.8%) are increasing whereas citrus fruits (-9.9%) are decreasing. In terms of value all segment decreased, except for dried fruit (+27.3%).

As far as import is concerned, Italy imported about 820,000 tons of fruit and vegetables (-4.3%), for an amount of 660 million Euro (-12.4%). In terms of volume only citrus fruits (+37.1%) increased, while all the other sectors decreased: vegetables (-6.6%), fresh fruits (-12.3%), dried fruits (-20.9%), and tropical fruits (-6.5%). In terms of value all segment decreased, except for citrus (+22.3%)
