Italy: “Other varieties made up for the loss recorded in Ferrovia cherries”

On the current cherry campaign, the Apulian grower Vito Quarato says: “This year, volumes are lower than last year due to the bad weather conditions recorded in April in our area, Gioia del Colle (Bari, Italy). For this reason, supply did not satisfy demand.”

“This year prices are higher perhaps because supply was lower than demand,” Quarato observes.

“Frost and rain affected the volumes, above all for the Ferrovia variety. However, in our case, by cultivating 7 different varieties drop in the production was felt less strongly because other varieties made up for the loss recorded in Ferrovia variety,” Quarato goes on.

“We are Apofruit partners, therefore we give our products to the cooperative.”
