US: Rainier introduces new organic blueberry packaging label

Rainier Fruit Company has redesigned their organic blueberry clamshell label to assist customers with identification of organic product. On a grocery visit last winter as part of the label design process Suzanne Wolter, Rainier Fruit Director of Marketing, had a difficult time differentiating organic from conventional berries. “I had to visit the display three times to locate the organic package. The subtle label differences made it difficult to easily identify. I can only imagine a consumer’s frustration during a shopping trip”, reported Suzanne Wolter. “Our goal was to visually draw the consumer to our brand and prominently position the organic identification.” The new package will début with the start of their blueberry season June 19th.

Rainier Fruit will harvest nearly 6 million pounds of blueberries this season, a 50% increase over last year, from 500 acres of company owned ranches. The company has found its niche with organic blueberries, growing the majority of the fruit organically to compete against other regions harvesting fruit during the same period. Peak production is late June through the end of July, with harvest continuing through early October.
