Germany: Asparagus from the wall

With one press on the button, asparagus: the German newspaper Focus mentions on its website that a horticultural company from the Mittelfranken, Germany, now supplies its customers from the farm shop with fresh asparagus outside opening hours by means of a vending machine.

The son of the owner, Thomas Schilmeier (22) hit upon the idea via an old vending machine for sandwiches and rebuild this one into an asparagus vending machine. "To buy a new machine was not a paying proposition for only eight weeks of asparagus" he says.

Since this season the client can, after putting in the money, take the desired asparagus (green, white, peeled or unpeeled) from the machine. Mainly regular customers with long working hours and spontaneous buyers make use of the service.
