Europe: Kampexport enters the market with better apricot varieties
Kampexport has started exporting better varieties of French apricots. The French company offers the "house variety" called Manon, along with the Orange Red, Pink Cot, Sweet Red and Sylred. "There are a lot of inferior quality apricots on the market and we are able to distinguish ourselves with our own varieties in the current market", says Theo Kampschoer. "This is why we have introduced new packaging this year."
"Unfortunately it hasn't been the best weather for apricot sales, but the buyers are still continuing to place new orders. We mainly export to Germany. The Belgians order a fair amount too, but the Dutch are unfortunately not big apricot eaters," says the exporter. Apricot prices are currently fluctuating between 1.50 and 3.50 Euro, depending on type, packaging and quality. The French apricot season lasts until the middle/end of September.
