Netherlands: Competitive prices for Egyptian red onions

The Dutch market for Egyptian red onions is very competitive at the moment, according to Hamdy Ahmed from Masr Fruit, this is due to the low quality of Dutch onions. In the last few weeks Masr Fruit has imported around ten containers with sizes from 40-110 and they were of top quality.

The grape import from Egypt started with high prices this season and brix levels are +15, Ahmed says there may be some shortages of the Flame variety this week and next week. He says this is nothing unusual just due to the weather, in fact the season so far has been, "no different than usual, except that the season started a bit later and therefore the ending of the season may differ from last year. For now prices are what they should at this stage in the season."
