Total onion export 8% lower

Onion export to Russia 90% lower in first four months

The export of Dutch onions during the first four months of 2012 was 8% lower than in the same period of 2011. The decrease from 285 to 262 million kgs. is for the better part the result of the decrease in the export to Russia (-90%). Also many of the traditionally important destinations, such as Germany (-56%), Senegal (-9%),
Ivory Coast (-49%), the United Kingdom (-6%) and Poland (-80%) have bought less. Clearly exports to African countries, such as Mauritania, Guinea, Gambia and Sierra Leone have increased. Also a few destinations in America and Asia, such as Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia imported more onions from the Netherlands.
