Peru: Ready to eat mango aimed at US supermarkets

Peruvian markets are listed to be developed within a new consumption category. "Ready to eat" is a commercial platform by the Association of Producers and Exporters of Mango (APEM) to boost demand for this fruit, specially in the United States markets.

"To understand the proposal, we compare it with avocado sold ready for consumption. This segment keeps on growing in the US and we believe that mango has a chance to develop," declared Juan Carlos Rivera, general manager for APEM.

Despite not being able to precise the exported amount for this category (ready to eat mango) during the recent campaign - from November 2011 to March 2012 - he said that the plan points to a consolidation of this segment in the next three years.

To manage this objective, the guild plans to work on the education of US importers and operators in supermarkets to place ripe mango in the respective places.

"At APEM, we believe that in order to assure a growth for mango, this is the commercial strategy to follow", he ended.
