Agrarian export from Peru increases to record value

The agrarian export from Peru reached 915 million American dollar in the first three months of 2012, which is a record value. This as published by the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) on its website. Compared to last year the increase in value amounts to almost 17%.

This news is not entirely surprising, because the export value has been increasing considerably since 2009. In 2009 the export value was still 502 million American dollar. The increase in the export value is in many cases attributed to the higher average prices for important agrarian products. This is mainly the case for mangoes (+44%), asparagus (+19,1%), pre-processed artichokes (+15%), coffee milk +15%), coffee (+9%) and grapes on the bunch (+3%). The export quantities have also increased partly, however, for instance coffee (+73%), coffee milk (+39%) and grapes on the bunch (+26%). Products of which the export quantity decreased are mangoes (-33%), asparagus (-19%) and pre-processed artichokes (-3%).
