"Asparagus market not immediately in a dip when lacking in export"
"Some growers indicated they would supply less asparagus this year, but we've received more asparagus this year", continues Theo. "We're in the last month of the asparagus season. There is less being produced, but also because the consumption traditionally decreases around now, I expect the prices to remain reasonably stable."
Riny van der Staak of the Venlo trading company of the same name, is reasonably positive about the current season. "At the beginning of the season the sales were going really well and there were high prices. Now the prices have been a little less good these last three weeks, but we can make up for it in the coming weeks."
What the Venlo asparagus trader thinks is striking is that the seasons of the heated cultivation and the traditional cultivation have followed each other up well. "You can see the price difference between the qualitatively good and lesser asparagus have decreased lately. The consumer is buying more price aware."
