Market report week 21

Low cherry prices in Germany

According to a market report of BLE, in week 21 there were cherries from different countries in the market. Burlat cherries came from Italy, Spain, Greece and France and were much better in quality compared to the other varieties. There were also Spanish, Californian and Greek Napoleons on the market, but low volume, color and the level of ripeness dampened consumers demand. The price started at a high level, 7 euro per kilo, but in this week prices went down, because demand lowered as well. Prices in week 21 were lower on average compared to the same week in 2010. Greek and Bulgarian cherries were sold for 2/3 euro and Italian, Spanish and French cherries were on a low price level of 4/5 euro.
