Klaas Greydanus:

"Small margins and little export typified potato season"

The supply of old potatoes is still reasonable at the moment, but Klaas Greydanus of potato wholesaler Greydanus & Brouwer from Heerenveen, in the Netherlands, is looking back at a different season. "Small margins and very little export typified the season. We hope to start the new season quickly. Left and right I hear that there is some export still, but with these temperatures we do not dare to send lorries with potatoes to Russia."

The price of the old harvest is between 12 and 15 cents at the moment. The potato wholesaler already since last week offers the first Frieslanders and Premières from the Isle of Tholen in the South West of the country. "This must always start up a bit. This spring we have also already early potatoes from Egypt and Morocco, as a result of which we can now offer old and new Nicola's at the same time. Earlier Nicola potatoes could not be sold in the Netherlands, but now we sell by the lorry-full."
