'Ja! Naturlich' : Largest organic mark in Austria
Linz - More than half of the entire turnover of organic foodstuff in the Austrian food trade comes from the Rewe trademark 'Ja, Natürlich' ('Yes, Of course'). This trade mark offers about 1,000 growers from federal state Oberösterreich and a dozen foodstuff producers the opportunity to sell their specialities all over Austria.
Martina Hörmer, manager of 'Ja! Natürlich', regards the hallmark, which was established in 1994, as a recipe for success. These days the hallmark offers about 1,100 products, with which in the BIlla and Merkur supermarkets last year a turnover of 312 mullion euro was reached. This is an increase of 7,6% compared to 2010. There is no end to the development according to Hörmer: "What do I eat and what is the influence on the environment? People pay more and more attention to this."
Organic foodstuff is on average twenty five percent more expensive. These higher costs must have a reason, Andreas Steidl, manager of the ten men strong quality management team says. "Organic on its own is too little. The difference in quality must be recognizable for the consumer." The most important 'Ja! Natürlich' product from Oberösterreich is the Kornspitz, a typical Austrian roll. Robert Guschlbauer from Waizenkirchen supplies twelve million of these rolls to Billa supermarkets annually.
