Spain: Horticultural exports grow again after E.coli crisis

Fruit and vegetable export data from the first quarter of 2012 year has been above the levels of the pre-E.coli crisis.

The director general of the Spanish Federation of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables (FEPEX), José María Pozancos, said that sector sales abroad have returned to "the growth path", a year after the "E. coli" crisis emerged in Germany.

Export data from the first quarter of 2012 year has been above the pre-crisis levels in both volume and value, so it has recovered the upward trend of the first half of 2011, which was interrupted by the consequences of erroneous charges to the Spanish production of the "E. coli" outbreak. He has noted that the situation has normalized both in the German market and in the other European countries, although the consequences of the crisis dragged on until the end of 2011 due to the collapse of the Spanish fruit and vegetables prices, which affected all markets.
