The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Water has submitted to the Council in charge of regulations of the Designation of Origin, bagged Grapes from Vinalopó; research project testing bagging technique, the main distinguishing feature of this product with varieties of seedless table grapes.
The Director General of Agricultural and Livestock Production, Manuel Lainez, stressed the importance of studying the adaptation to our cultivation conditions of different seedless varieties, which now represent a higher interest at a commercial level, and assess the economic viability of production.
In addition, this project, that will be developed by the Valencian Institute for Agricultural Research (IVIA) in collaboration with the very DO bagged Grape from Vinalopó, will also include the necessary tests to transport Comunitat bagged grape growers of the Region varieties and cultivation techniques of the best crops suited to achieve the best yields and quality possible, especially given the complexity and special management practices required for the cultivation of such varieties.
Similarly, Manuel Lainez has explained that it has been agreed for a project to improve grape´s post-harvest conditions which aims to reduce the proliferation of fungi and longer periods of storage of grapes, to initiate.
The CEO stressed that these projects will enable the Comunitat´s bagged grape industry sector to respond to the demand for table grapes by consumers, both domestically and internationally, and encouraging greater business volume.
