Spain: Farmers seek to save their productions

Fruit and vegetable products are the most affected due record heat waves above 40 degrees.

Heat wave burns crops in Lanzarote

Lanzarote has experienced heat wave that has scorched crops in the last five days. Temperatures have exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in some areas, as is the case of La Geria.

The heat wave mainly affected plantations with vines, strawberries, watermelons, fruit trees and horticultural products (tomatoes, peppers, zucchini or potatoes).

One more drawback for Lanzarote's agriculture, in a year that has been already hard because of drought. "The low relative humidity in the atmosphere and wind, which contribute to a vegetative stop and dehydration of vegetables, worsens crop conditions," pointed out sources from the Agricultural Experimental Farm of Cabildo.
