First two months of 2012

FruitImprese: latest data on export of Italian fruit and vegetables

According to FruitImprese, in the first two months of 2012 fruit and vegetable export flows from Italy increased, while import decreased.

Both export and import decreased in value. The balance is about 250 million Euro, with a 7.2% increase compared to the same period in 2011.

Altogether, in the first two months of 2012 Italy exported less than 700,000 tons (+6.8%) for approximately 650 million Euro (-7%). In terms of volume, there has been an increase of exports for vegetables (+5.9%), fresh fruit (+15.1%) and dried fruit (+10.7%) while figures for citrus were negative (-6.9%). In terms of value only dried fruit recorded an increase (+28.8%), all the other segments decreased.

As for imports, Italy has imported approximately 500,000 tons of fruit and vegetables (-5.7%) for a value of 400 million Euro (-14.2%). Among individual sectors, increases in volume are recorded only for citrus (+37.2%); for others a negative performance: vegetables (-8.1%), fresh fruits (-10%), dried fruit (-17.7%) and exotics (-10.1%). A negative value for all sectors except citrus (+23.9%).
