This year, Interpera will analyze the whole the cycle of the pear market, from the new challenges which are essential to the species, to the expectations of the new consumers. The programme will tackle the analysis of current campaign results and the prospects for the next one. The production costs in the southern hemisphere and the obstacles to development of the European production of pears will also be discussed.
One of the important points of the congress will be the round table discussion on the possible preventive measures and crisis management. Indeed, the spring and summer campaigns showed that the mechanisms available to the CMO are insufficient and ineffective to reabsorb the production surpluses and the stocks which accumulated both for tomatoes, peaches and nectarines. It is necessary to re-examine the device of market withdrawals to change it as an effective tool of intervention and regulation of the economic situation.
During the Interpera press conference at Fruit Logista last February, Mr. Peligrí, the agriculture councillor of the Généralitat de Catalynya, expressed his total support with the Interpera new edition. He was pleased it is returning to Lérida, one of the principal pear producing regions in Europe, with Belgium and the Netherlands, Italy, France and Portugal.
These countries produce a very complementary range of varieties, like the Conference, Abbate Fetel, Blanquilla, Williams, Angelys and Rocha.
This year Interpera will concentrate on new dynamics, on the following themes:
- Signs of quality (PGI : Pera of Lérida, Pera d' Emila Romagna, Rocha de Oeste)
- Actions on the company clubs for some varieties
- A strong export to new markets but which runs up against the sanitary barriers of many countries
- Promotion campaigns and food education in order to seduce the consumers
- The guarantee of quality after harvest for a fruit ready to consume
- The approach of integrated production and the environment-conscious orchards
- Summer 2012 pear harvest estimates
