Pakistan: Fruit export increases by 28%

The export of fresh fruit from the country registered an increase of 27.96 percent during the last ten months of current financial year. The fruit export from the country during the period from July-April 2011-12 was recorded at 654,205 metric tonnes worth $322.43 million as compared to the export of 584,725 metric tonnes of $251.55 million same period of corresponding year. According to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the export of leguminous vegetable (pulses) witnessed tremendous growth as the export of the pulses were increased by 1,640 percent during last ten months of current financial year. About 8,463 metric tonnes of pulses of different varieties exported to the period under review and earned about $6.351 million as against the export of only 340 metric tonnes of $0.365 million during same period of last year, it added.
