Germany: Cucumber prices on fixed course

The cucumber supply in the middle of May in both the Benelux and Germany is not very extensive. Prices were at a fixed level in week 19 and the beginning of week 20, as announced by the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI).

Since the middle of week 20 it appears, earlier than expected however, that a change in the tendency has arrived. The prices at wholesalers are slowly decreasing, which is mainly due to the result of lack of demand. The low temperatures together with regular rain storms make that the demand for cucumbers low at the moment.

The number of special offers in the German food trade in week 20 is smaller than in previous weeks. Only six trading chains or regional supermarkets had cucumbers on special this week. The price of the specials was between 0,35 and 0,39 each.
