Spain: Strawberry campaign generates 6,000 tons of plastic residues

The strawberry campaign in the province of Huelva generates around 6,000 tons of plastic waste which find its destination in the Asian markets.

According to data made available to EFE by the consortium from Huelva for elimination of plastic waste and biomass, from the total of agricultural plastic waste generated 2,000 tons are white plastic - used to cover macro tunnels - 3,500 tons are from black film and some 307 from watering strips.

Farmers should start putting this waste in the deposits created for it in several places in the province, already clean and ready.

The authorized manager for the treatment and moving of this waste is the company Antonio España & Hijos, the Asian continent being the main destination for it.

Antonio España e Hijos is expecting to start a facility to cut up, clean and prepare the plastic and send it to national and international markets. Huelva's local government already handed the license for the works to start.
