Germany: Sales of fruit decreased last ten years
The German population has bought less fresh fruit over the last ten years. Since 2003 the quantity bought decreased by about 2% annually, according to research by the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI). There were, however, positive developments as well within the assortment of fruit. The quantity of berries sold increased annually by about 1%. The main party responsible for this positive development were for instance blueberries, who's sales increased by about 11% each year. But also raspberries, sales of which increased by 7% per annum and a few exotics such as pomegranate and cape goose berries were also part of the positive result.
The quantity of fresh vegetables bought by Germans has stagnated since 2003. But here as well are some products, sales of which increased a great deal each year. Since 2003 ready-to-eat salads were bought 11% more and 8% ready-to-eat vegetables for soup. The sale of cherry tomatoes and cocktail tomatoes even increased by 14%.
