Since the avocado´s production cycle in this season had a good development, without any severe weather problems, 2012 will close with a record amount of both fresh and processed exports, reaching 600,000 tons.
Ricardo Javier Vega Lopez, president of the Association of Avocado Producers and Exporting Packers of Michoacán AC (APEAM), indicated that just over a month after the season closes, exports to the United States are estimated to surpass 350,000 tons compared with 280,000 tons registered in 2011.
He also explained that a part of what was sent to other countries, just in fresh and processed fruit, will reach 450,000 tons. For June, Michoacan avocado exports would go up to 600,000 tons.
"We can not lower our guard against plant health requirements, we are working every day to avoid surprises. Follow up is ongoing, authorities help us ensure that everything goes well," he concluded.
