Largest sun panel installation at the Berliner Groszmarkt
The Berlin energy agency BEA are having a PV installation installed on four roofs of the Berliner Groszmarkt (BGH) (Berlin wholesale market). The cost involved amounts to about 23 million Euro. When ready the project will deliver the equivalent electricity to more than 500 households. The Berlin company Solon Energy GmbH is responsible for placing the installation.
On total 5,540 solar modules will be installed. The project has started already and when finished 39,000 m2 of roof area will be used to generate energy. That is the size of six football fields. For the four roofs three different PV installations will be used: Solon SOLfixx, Solon SOLbond Seam and Solon SOLbond Rail. "Depending on the structure of the roof we have the correct solutions," Stefan Sauberlich, chairman of the directors of Solon says. "Important with all three of the systems, we have here, is the low weights and the fact that the roof is taken care of."
The Berlin energy agency will use the installation for at least a period of 20 years and the electricity will be added to the general energy network. In total the installation will supply 1,450 megawatt hour energy annually. The annual carbon dioxide emission will be about 850 tons less than with normal way of generating fossil energy.
