According to information from PromPerĂș, the commission responsible for promoting Peruvian export and tourism, the country exported 842 million tonnes of fresh produce worth USD 1.1 billion last year. Key exports products included table grapes (USD 299M), asparagus (USD 289M), avocados (USD 164 M), mango (USD 117M), bananas (USD 69M) and citrus fruit (USD 66M). Along with the U.S. (36%), the country's key trade partners include the Netherlands (24%), the United Kingdom, Spain and Hong Kong.
Peru's growing importance as an international supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables is demonstrated by the following rankings: Peru is the world's largest exporter of asparagus, second largest exporter of avocados and third largest exporter of organic bananas. The country anticipates further growth potential in the export of pomegranates, blueberries, figs and cherimoyas.
Peru officially sponsored its first national pavilion at Fruit Logistica in 2003. Since then, the size of its exhibition space has increased significantly along with the number of exhibitors.
The country's key objectives as the Fruit Logistica 2013 partner country are to develop new markets in Asia and Eastern Europe, strengthen the marketing of avocados and citrus fruit in Europe and the U.S., and to become firmly established in markets with which Peru has trade agreements
