New strawberry Mignonette

There is a new strawberry variety, as stated on the German website Gabot.de. The strawberry 'Mignonette' has come from a wild strawberry. They have been successful in combining the intensive taste of wild strawberries with the high fruit yield of the cultivated varieties. The strawberry plant produces a large number of small, about 2 cm long, fruit which grows on long stems. The sweet, intensive strawberry taste is highly concentrated in the small fruit. The Mignonette is harvested from May to September and is a continuously producing variety. The plant produces new flowers and fruit all the time.

The small tasty fruit is often used to decorate desserts or in sweets. They have a very high vitamin and mineral content. Also the leaves of the plant may be used. Tea prepared from the dried strawberry leaves is of assistance by stomach and bowel problems and strengthens the immune system.

The Mignonette prefers a sunny to half shade position and needs humid food and humus rich soil. The plant produces a lot of leaves, is a perennial and hardy and also produces fruit in the first year.
