Switzerland: Pear storage almost empty

Swiss eating pears will shortly disappear again from the shop shelves. There are hardly any Conference in storage in Switzerland any more, according to the German website Gabot.de.

The stock in storage of Conference is 586 tons at the moment. After that Kaiser Alexander with 296 tons and Gute Luise with 114 tons. Of all other pear varieties about 36 tons in still in storage. Swisscofel and the Schweitzer Obstverband are convinced that shortly no Swiss eating pears will be for sale.

With apples the situation is rather different. At the end of April 24,882 tons of apples were in storage. That is 1,264 tons more than last year. The varieties Golden Delicious (8,130 tons) and Gala (7,747 tons) form the biggest share of the still stored supply.
