Italy: Colleroni company starts watermelon campaign

In the area of production in Pachino, in the province of Siracusa, Colleroni company grows two varieties of watermelons: Crimson Sweet and Dumara. Their peel is streaked intense green and their flesh is brilliant red, juicy and very sweet. This year, the harvest started on May 2nd.



As the supply manager at Colleroni, Paolo Nunzio Raudino explains: “There are about 100 Hectares dedicated to watermelons, both in greenhouses and in tunnels, and we expect 4,000 tons of production.”



Colleroni usually sells 80% of its watermelons in Italy (70% is sold to big retail and 30% to wholesalers and markets), while 20% of products are exported to Germany, Switzerland and Malta.

Raudino hopes the prices will be the same as the last year.



Colleroni watermelons are packed in the following ways:
  • Carton boxes 30x50 / 40x50 / 40x60 cm
  • Bins 80x120 cm
  • Carton-wood bins 80x120 / 100x120 cm
  • Packages with 2/3/4/5 fruits.


Goods can be wei8ghed and priced on request of customers.
