After the success of last season, the company 'Ciliegie Bisceglie Srl' on behalf of the Consortium for Protection and Enhancement of the cherry from Bisceglie, again organises a cherry auction also this year and invites participants to take part in 2012 campaign.
The campaign will be managed in a transparent and modern way in order to meet the needs of all operators.
The first auctions took place on Sunday 6th May, 2012 with abundant volumes of trading goods and satisfactory quality of the first early cherries.
Prices for first category fruit were between 5 Euro/kg for Bigarreau variety and 6 Euro/kg for Early Lory variety. Second category fruit reached lower prices.
The company 'Ciliegie Bisceglie Srl' aims to present the following two points to operators, in order to achieve operational modes that can satisfy all participants:
- All buyers can take part in the auction after compulsory submission of a guaranty/insurance policy or similar guarantee. This is a compulsory condition for the access to trading.
- The whole product will be packed in specially provided and uniform packages.
The cultivation of cherries in Apulia occurs on a cultivated area of 17,000 hectares, for a total of 52,000 tons of fruit. 80 per cent of production comes from the province of Bari.
