Peru: Onion exports grew USD 1.1 Million

In the first three months of 2012, fresh onion exports reached USD 5.5 million (an average price of USD 0.22 per kilo), representing an increase of USD 1.1 million (FOB), compared to the same period of last year which was USD 4.4 million
This growth was due to an increased consumption of this product in countries like Colombia, USA, Spain, Panama and the Netherlands, main markets for fresh onion.

USD 3 million worth of onions were exported to Colombia, at an average price of USD 0.17 per kilo, to the U.S. USD 1.6 million with a price of USD0.34 per kilo and to Spain USD 697,000 at a price of USD0.37 per kilo.

According to the director of the specialized portal Agrodata, Wilfredo Koo Gallo, the main exporters of white onions so far this year are: Import and Export Agromercedes with USD 1.3 million at an average price of USD 0.15 per kilo and Export & Import Marerose E.I.R.L. with USD 1.1 million at an average price of USD 0.33 per kilo.

Fact:

- In the previous year, total exports reached USD 42,530,517 selling 176.5 million kilos, while in the 2010 was USD 41,774,884 selling 165,50 million kilos.
