"Hicham Kissami: "At the moment quiet market Maroc Late"

Maroc Fruit Europe will start subsidiary in France

Maroc Fruit Europe BV has been importing fruit and vegetables from Morocco for the last three years. The company of Hicham Kissani has specialized in the import of Moroccan citrus. For this Maroc Fruit Eurppe BV have intensive cooperation agreements with a number of citrus growers from Berkane, Gharb and Beni Mellal. This coming season various products, such as tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables will be added to the assortment.

At the moment Maroc Fruit Europe BV import Maroc Late. "There is no surplus in the market and sales are quiet. I reckon the market will improve again as soon as the weather improves and the supply from Egypt is less," Hicham says. "This year less volume is being exported than in previous years. However, we have enough Maroc Late and will continue till the end of July. Prices are low between 8 and 8.50 Euro now, but in the middle of May prices traditionally increase. At the moment we mainly sell Maroc Late in the Netherlands, Belgium and France. Russia import plenty from Egypt at the moment, because of lower prices from that country. Of course there is a large difference in quality between Morocco and Egypt. Valencia's from Morocco are of better colour, taste and brix.

Maroc Fruit Europe BV will shortly open a subsidiary in France (Perpignan) by the name of Maroc Fruit France. "With this company we want to establish a place on the French market for citrus from Morocco and establish direct lines to retail and wholesale. France remains a large and good market for Moroccan citrus, especially for Berkane clementines" Hicham concludes. "In the future we want to extend further with our own sales offices in amongst others Russia."
