German potatoes: stored cooled and of good quality

The potato supply in the German food trade is still determined by German potatoes at the moment. Imported potatoes from the Mediterranean Sea area are only offered sporadically as imported potatoes, reports the German Landvolk-Presse service.

The growers have invested a lot of money in the past few years to be able to store the potatoes as optimally as possible. The ware potatoes are stored in boxes at a temperature between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius with a relatively high humidity at the moment. This prevents the potatoes from shriveling. The consumer profits from all this. They receive potatoes of the best quality. The German consumption potato is also supplied very cheaply at the moment, for a price of 60 cents per kg. The growers, on the other hand, only receive six to 10 cents per kg of potatoes.

With a potato harvest of 5.4 million tonnes, almost every second German potato was harvested in the state Niedersachsen last year. This means it is still the most important growing region for spuds.
