US: Green food market above the US$31 billion in sales

The organic food sector in the US follows its sales progression in 2011.

According to OTA (Organic Trade Association), the sector of the US organic food increased sales by 9.5%, reaching US$31.5 billion in 2011. The non-food sector represents some US$2.2 billion, while the food and drinks sectors reached US$29.22 billion.

The sector of organic food increased some US$2.5 billion in 2011, with the fruits and vegetables category representing almost 50% of that rise. The growth in sales of organic food products (9.5%) keeps progressing faster than the conventional food products (4.7%).

OTA is a commercial association of farmers and organic products in the US, formed by more than 6,500 companies in 49 states. OTA members are producers, exporters, transforming companies, farmers, importers, distributors associations and small vendors.
