Austrian potato market week 17

Decreasing quality with falling prices

The situation on the Austrian potato market remains difficult. There are still plenty of parcels available. The growers would rather sell their remaining quantities today then tomorrow, because of increasing quality problems and the prospect of decreasing growers prices.

The sales situation has improved somewhat. Locally sales are still slow, but in the meantime larger quantities can be exported. Grower prices are still under pressure, although often one sticks to the prices. For middle sized product the price is nine to ten Euro/100 kgs. and for excessively large potatoes mostly only two Euro/100 kgs.
Product of very good quality with the GlobalGAP hallmark have a minimum price of
12 Euro/100 kgs.

Germany
There are hardly any new impulses on the German market. Early potatoes from the Mediterranean area are still not a serious competition and also potatoes from France only serve as a supplement to the assortment. Stable potato prices are expected for the coming weeks.
