Germany: Rewe-dc supply 350 shops
On 19 april was 'the day of logistics' in Germany. More than 225 pupils from the region could visit Rewe-dc that day in German Bondorf. Here 6,500 different articles are in storage on 37,000 m2. From here 350 shops are being stocked.
400 people are employed in the distribution centre, as the pupils were told by the manager, Johannes Ott. "The suppliers bring the products here and these are being stored here, commissioned and finally delivered and supplied to the supermarkets." We work in shifts. Deliveries can be supplied till 12 o'clock and we start loading at 2 pm. The products are to arrive at the supermarkets by 8 pm. During the second shift lorries are loaded during the night and deliveries start at 7 o'clock. The orders to be filled by the company arrive online directly from the supermarkets "The computers control the stock, after which we are informed about low numbers of a certain article. Then we will react," said Ott. "Thanks to this modern system we guarantee that stocks in the shops remain in order."
The west wing of the DC in Bondorf will shortly be extended. A cooling centre will be installed. Also the other side will be extended shortly in order to enlarge the storage space.
