Paul van Ravenswaaij:

"Netherland: "Ivorian mangos are the best around"

Last week the first mangos of the variety Kent from the Ivory Coast arrived at S.C. van Ravenswaaij in Veenendaal by air. The first containers will arrive this week. "We are a relatively large player in mangos from the Ivory Coast, especially ready-to-eat mangos", says Paul van Ravenswaaij sr.

"At the moment there are also mangos from Peru, Mali and Brazil on the market, but the mangos from the Ivory Coast are the tastiest available. The season is only on for six or seven weeks, and then it's over", says Paul, who adds that there is a good demand. "Eighty percent of the mangos are sold through the supermarkets, abroad as well. The ready-to-eat-mango's mainly go to Russia, but they also have a special price card."

Van Ravenswaaij has been importing mangos from the Ivory Coast for a few years. "One year the season is really good and the next very bad. When it rains on the Ivory Coast, the sales season can be dramatic, but up until now there's been fine weather with a good harvest. We have someone all through the harvest season, who checks the harvest and this means we're close to the source", concludes the importer.
