"EU producers want creation of "European Garlic Quality" brand"
Escudero highlighted the importance of the EU to carry out exhaustive controls to end with the fraudulent entrance of garlic from third-party countries, with prices considerably less than European production costs. As for the sector's profitability, Escudero pointed that after a commercialization campaign where garlic was sold 10% above production costs, is right now being sold again under cost price.
ASAJA also calculated a 10% reduction in the harvest regarding last year, due to low temperatures and drought.
