Austrian potato market: Prices still unsatisfactory
The situation on the Austrian potato market has not really improved. In storage at the moment a lot is still available. The net quantities, which are ready to be sold, are clearly smaller, because many potatoes started to show signs of lesser quality and could not be sold any more. But despite this the available quantity is still in excess of the demand. Local sales are satisfying. Export, however, even after decreasing the price, is below expectations. Growers prices are under pressure. Middle sized potatoes are sold at nine to ten Euro/100 kgs. Oversized potatoes normally only at two Euro and potatoes with GlobalGAP hallmark for at least twelve euro.
Germany
The German turnover has stabilized after the very good results round Easter. Despite that for a large part there is a change to potatoes from cooling, the percentage of potatoes which is to be rejected is still high. This is attributed to the unusually quick physiological ageing of the potatoes this season. Nevertheless the available supply is sufficient to satisfy the demand. The growers prices remain at the same level as last week. Occasionally an additional charge is paid for potatoes of good quality.
