Senegal: Mango production moves to a fruit fly free region

The national bureau of agricultural and urban governance (ANCAR) has called farmers in the region Matam to start producing the mango varieties Kent and Keit. The agricultural scientists have discovered that this is the only fruit fly free region, a phenomenal that has damaged the mango production in all the other regions. Because specialists still have no means of eradicating these flies, this seems the only solution. In order to encourage farmers in Matam in 8 places of this region an area of ​​0.5ha has been reserved for the cultivation of these mangoes which are commonly sold in Europe.
