UK: Fastest ever Pink Lady apple in London Marathon

Yesterday’s Virgin London Marathon saw the fastest ever time for a Pink Lady apple, with the course completed by runner Matt Ward in just 3 hours 49 minutes. Matt ran the course while wearing a giant Pink Lady apple costume, with a 'stalk hat' and green leggings completing the look.

Also running in similar Pink Lady apple costumes were David Mitchell (4 hours 52 minutes), James Stevens (5 hours 2 minutes) and Jo Hurl (5 hours 37 minutes). All four runners raised funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, Pink Lady’s charity of the year, and the charity Jo also works for.

But far more than four Pink Lady apples were present at this year’s race – as the official apple of the Virgin London Marathon, Pink Lady apples were given away at the pre-race Pasta Party as well as in every goody bag given to the tens of thousands of runners as they crossed the finish line, giving them a healthy refreshing snack to help them recover.

In the seven years of our involvement we can boast that all Pink Lady apple runners have finished this gruelling course.
