Egyptian fruit and vegetable export important
The Egyptian season for French beans has luckily normalized again somewhat, Mike de Lange of B.P.de Lange says. The trading company has worked with shipper Helwan Export for already 35 years, when they are exclusive supplier for the Netherlands.
"We expect the volumes to increase somewhat, because the supply of French beans was very bad these last months. Not only for Egypt, which normally has volume at the middle of March, but also Senegal and Morocco were not exceptional this year. I think that we may add a record ourselves as far as the purchase price of beans is concerned. I think we never paid as much as this year!"
"All this is the result of strange and bad weather conditions in Egypt and the other countries" Mike continues. There is not much information about the political situation in Egypt. That I leave to the media. We did not have many hassles this year when trading. I do not know what the future will bring. So far I have not found the crystal ball as yet!"
"The season with Egyptian spring onions from Helwan was good and we will extend this next season. We will start with Egyptian grapes in about a month' time, but you will be informed about that" Mike says. "The Egyptian beans will be imported till about the middle of June. Then we will see when the Dutch season will start. During the interim France will have to supply."
