The first new harvest carrots are presently being exported from Spain, Italy and Israel into the Netherlands. According to Mart Muijsers of M&B Peen from Kraggenburg these southern countries also supply Eastern Europe, but volumes are still small and the asking price of the new harvest is still too high. But when these countries will lower their price they could become formidable competitors to the old harvest."
The demand for old harvest carrots is at a good level, according to the trader. "Only the price - 18 cents of the lower end of the market up to 23 cents for high quality carrots - will not increase as yet. As long as the price of the new harvest is so high buyers from Germany and Eastern Europe still want to buy parcels of good carrots from here. The quality of the old harvest is rather unreliable. There are many bad parcels of carrots and the good carrots the growers do not want to sell as yet. Of course speculation is high. My own feeling is that the price of the unwashed carrots will not increase anymore."
M&B Peen from Kraggenburg is active in processing and selling of carrots. All carrots are washed, sorted and packed under their own supervision. In addition to consumer packings the carrots can also be supplied in various bulk packings. Via wholesalers and supermarkets those polder-fresh carrots finally arrive on the plate of the consumer.
