Reduce waste and prevent sodium build up

UK: Solufeed launches new iron chelate formulations

Fertiliser specialists Solufeed have launched two class leading iron chelate formulations to add to their existing trace element range. Following last month’s release of K-Leaf – a radically improved source of foliar potassium – this latest announcement underlines Solufeed’s commitment to continuous development.

Solufeed Managing Director Dick Holden explains their significance: "This development increases the content of our chelated iron products very close to their theoretical maximum at 7.7% w/w (10%w/v) for liquid FeEDTA and 11% for microgranular FeDTPA. The higher iron content of these new products will mean less packaging, storage and transport per unit of chelated iron, so growers will benefit from useful savings."

Higher iron content is not the end of the good news, either, according to Dick "Neither of these new iron chelates contain any appreciable sodium because in both cases ammonia is used as the counter ion in the formulation" – That’s a big advantage in modern recirculation systems when compared to traditional iron chelates where the sodium content leads to a gradual build up of sodium that can only be avoided by dumping irrigation water from time to time.

As more growers look to recirculation of irrigation water to reduce their water and fertiliser use and to avoid the waste of precious resources, Solufeed’s latest development may be very timely.
