In total South Africa exported about 1.3 million boxes of apricots in the 2011/2012 season. In the previous year 882,000 boxes were exported. With a standard quantity of 4,75 kgs of apricots per box this represents an export quantity of about 6,100 tons in season 2011/2012 and about 4,200 tons in the previous season.
51% of the total export quantity went to the European market, 30% to the Near-East and 18% to the United Kingdom.
Germany imported less apricots from South Africa during the last few years. In 2006 with an import quantity of 4,150 tons the second largest import quantity was still reached. Since then the quantity decreased all the time. In 2010 871 tons were imported and according to provisional figures of the German Central Bureau of Statistics only 595 tons were imported in 2011.
