The damage caused to cultivations by frosts last Winter, which affected, according to the Council of Agriculture and Fishing from the Andalucia local government, more than 3,500 hectares of horticultural, citrus and dry fruit productions, has been added to by the hail at the beginning of the week, affecting the municipalities in Almanzora, such as Lúcar, Tíjola, Purchena or Olula, causing damages in cultivations like vineyards, olive and citrus orchards. According to Francisco Vargas, president of the Young Farmers Association of Almería, "a heavy hail for just 10 minutes in the area of Almanzora, Monday afternoon, caused big damage which we are still evaluating." Fruit on the ground and damaged trees are the result of "crazy weather", according to a spokesman for Asaja-Almería.
