Brazil: Brapex calls for improvements on exports to US

Brapex had a meeting last Friday, with representatives from the Ministery of Agriculture (Mapa) to ask for actions to improve the papaya export relation with the US market.

In the meeting, attended by vice-president for Brapex, Rodrigo Martins, his associate Patrick Caldara and the technicians José Roberto Macedo Fuentes and Carlos Henrique, a document was presented with the association's arguments, that include requests for exchange orders in the Working Plan for Papaya Export to the US.

Among the requests is the supervision extension. Brapex' proposal is that all cultivations in a area delimited by geographic coordinates are within 12 months follow-up, with a 60 day limit for fruits for export.

Another request is that the communication with the US Government improves, for Brazilian companies like in the case of non-acceptance of cargo. "Our requests were welcomed by Cosam Coutinho (Director for the Vegetable Health Department in Brasilia). He was concerned about the information on the papaya exports drop from Brazil to the US and he's talking with APHIS about the present situation", said Martins.

Next week, Brapex will have a technical meeting to revise the whole internal working plan and suggest the necessary changes.
