Turkey: Akan to build new facility

Akan Citrus Company is still busy with exports of Lamas lemons and Star Ruby and Rio Red varieties of grapefruit. Mustafa Arslan from the company expects this to continue until the end of May. "The price of lemons is increasing at the moment, I expect it to reach 0.65 Euro/kg, FOB Mersin in the next couple of weeks." He goes on to say that demand is good. Akan exports lemons to Ukraine, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia and Bulgaria.



Meanwhile the company is gearing up for this season's tomato exports, loading will start in two weeks.

This summer Akan will start to load other products such as watermelon, apricot, onion, strawberries and cherries to name a few. Arslan expects a good season for fruit this year.



The company is continually increasing products and varieties for export. Akan will also started building a new factory this summer, the project will take around 15 months to complete. The total area will be 11,500 m², consisting of 2,500 m² of cold storage, in addition to this there will be 1,500 m² of underground storage room.



This new factory will give Akan a capacity for 10 trucks per day for export and enable them to process 30 tons of produce per hour.
